Love Etna Explorer 4×4 Sunset is a guided small-group 4×4 experience designed for travellers who want to discover a more adventurous side of Mount Etna. This sunset tour combines local flavours, off-road tracks, volcanic landscapes, panoramic viewpoints and an unforgettable walk at sunset among the craters of the southern side of the volcano.
The experience begins at Montata Grande at 3:30 PM with a tasting of carefully selected local specialties. After this first introduction to the Etna region, we’ll head towards the volcano and begin the 4×4 adventure.
Accompanied by a certified nature guide, you’ll travel across scenic off-road routes, stop near a lava cave to understand how lava tubes are formed, admire the spectacular Valle del Bove and reach the lateral craters area for an easy walk at sunset with a small snack offered by Walk in Nature.
Your journey begins at Montata Grande, where you’ll enjoy a tasting of local Etna specialties before heading towards the higher slopes of the volcano.
This first stop introduces the authentic flavours of the Etna region and the deep connection between volcanic soil, local agriculture and Sicilian traditions. It is the perfect way to begin the experience before leaving the countryside behind and entering the volcanic landscape.
After the tasting, the 4×4 adventure begins as we leave the main road and follow scenic volcanic tracks towards the lava cave area.
Here, after a short walk, your guide will explain how a lava tube is formed and why these natural volcanic tunnels played an important role in local history.
This stop offers a fascinating introduction to Mount Etna’s geology and to the way local communities used the volcano’s natural features in everyday life.
The journey continues by 4×4 along off-road tracks surrounded by forests, lava flows and volcanic scenery shaped by centuries of eruptions.
Unlike standard sightseeing tours, Love Etna Explorer 4×4 Sunset allows you to reach quieter and more remote areas of Mount Etna, away from the busiest tourist routes whenever conditions allow.
One of the most spectacular moments of the tour is the stop overlooking the immense Valle del Bove.
This enormous volcanic amphitheatre tells the story of thousands of years of eruptions, collapses, lava flows and geological evolution. Standing at its edge, you’ll fully appreciate the scale and power of Mount Etna while your guide explains how this extraordinary landscape was formed.
After the Valle del Bove viewpoint, the adventure continues with another off-road section across volcanic landscapes and panoramic tracks.
As the afternoon light becomes softer, the black lava, volcanic ash and surrounding scenery create a unique atmosphere.
The final part of the experience takes place in the Lateral Craters area, at around 2,000 metres above sea level.
Here, we’ll enjoy an easy walk among ancient craters and lunar volcanic landscapes while the sun slowly sets over Mount Etna. The warm evening light transforms the lava fields into an ever-changing scenery of colours, shadows and volcanic shapes.
During the sunset stop, Walk in Nature will offer a small snack, giving you time to relax, take photographs and enjoy one of the most memorable moments of the day.
Mount Etna is one of Sicily’s most visited natural attractions. However, exploring it by 4×4 allows us to experience a more adventurous and authentic side of the volcano.
For this reason, whenever conditions allow, we choose scenic off-road routes, quieter viewpoints and the best timing to offer a more personal experience. At the same time, we always respect the natural environment and the safety regulations of Mount Etna.
Our goal is not simply to take you off-road. Instead, we want to help you discover Mount Etna through the eyes of those who explore it every day.
At Walk in Nature, we believe that exploring Mount Etna should be more than reaching beautiful viewpoints.
Every off-road track tells the story of ancient eruptions. Each lava field reveals the incredible power of nature. Together, these landscapes show why Mount Etna is one of the most extraordinary natural places in Europe.
